Member for Murray Austin Evans has put forward the Notice of Motion (first step) for his Private Member’s Bill to return the Murray Valley National Park to State Forest and restore access to timber resources in the redgum forests for sustainable timber harvesting.
“This issue was particularly important to me and has been one of my highest priorities,” Mr Evans said.
“I have spoken to many people in our electorate who are hurting from the existing laws and limits on sustainable timber harvesting due to the declaration of the Murray Valley National Park.
Mr Evans has spent many hours consulting with stakeholders, the community and Coalition colleagues on this issue.
“I am very proud to introduce this to parliament as it is a vital step closer to rebuilding our local redgum industry, which plays such an important part in our regional economy and community.
