Barooga will benefit from an influx of 250 delegates from all over Australia when the region hosts the Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) Conference in August 2019.
SEGRA is Australia’s premier conference on regional issues and next year’s event in Barooga is proudly supported by the NSW Government.
Member for Murray Austin Evans said the three-day conference will provide the perfect opportunity to clearly demonstrate Barooga and the Murray region’s business event capabilities to high-profile delegates.
“There is just so much to offer in the area and we are delighted that the spotlight will be on Barooga next year as delegates from around the country gather for the SEGRA Conference,” Mr Evans said.
“With the Murray region welcoming more than 1.2 million international and domestic overnight visitors in the year ended March 2018, the 2019 SEGRA Conference will be a great way to show delegates, first-hand, why the region has such great appeal for visitors.
“As most delegates will be travelling from outside the region, securing this event means more heads on hotel beds, diners in restaurants and visitors to our tourist attractions. In fact, the conference is set to deliver 750 bed nights for Barooga mid-week, which will be an enormous injection for the local economy,” he said.
NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the NSW Government is committed to supporting the regional conferencing industry to ensure local communities thrive.
“The NSW Government is determined to put the spotlight on regional NSW because we know more visitors to our regions has vital flow-on effects to local accommodation providers, restaurants and cafes, shops and attractions,” Mr Marshall said.
“We look forward to supporting Barooga next year and sharing the region’s best tourism offerings with more than 250 delegates from around the country.”
The SEGRA conference provides an opportunity for all sections of the Australian community, both rural and urban, to explore the key issues affecting regional, rural and remote Australia and be part of providing positive sustainable outcomes to ensure future prosperity.
The conference will be held from 19 to 23 August 2019.
