“Women such as Mrs Hand provide an enormous amount of support to our local community and are true hidden treasures,” Mr Evans said.
“Mrs Hand was nominated by others in the community who have seen first-hand the impact she makes on the lives of people around her.
“She thoroughly deserves this recognition and should be extremely proud of the nomination and in joining this prestigious list of highly regarded rural women.”
There were seven women across the Murray electorate who were recognised on the 2017 Honour Roll and 103 nominees across the State.
The esteemed ladies join a growing roll call of over 900 volunteers who have been recognised since the first Honour Roll was launched in 2010.
This important tribute documents and celebrates the unpaid work of women who ensure the viability of so many crucial community groups and charities.
An estimated 43.7 per cent of adult Australians volunteered a total of 932 million hours in 2016.
Volunteering provides the opportunity for people to connect to their community and to gain personal and practical benefits.
Hidden Treasures is an annual initiative of the NSW Department of Primary Industries’ Rural Women’s Network.
