Hundreds of Griffith families will benefit from the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government’s record investment in education, with additional funding committed to deliver new additional facilities for Murrumbidgee Regional High School announced today.
Member for Murray Austin Evans explained that the additional investment builds on the previously announced commitment to upgrade the school sites, which are now operating under a “one school, two sites” model.
The extra funding for the project comes as the tender for the construction of the new facilities has been released.
Mr Evans said that the extra funding will enable a library upgrade and a new multi-purpose space on the former Griffith High School site, as well as a new gymnasium and assembly space on the former Wade High School site that will accommodate all students from both campuses.
“This is great news for local families. We are ensuring that we have the top-quality school facilities and resources our students need now and into the future,” Mr Evans said.
“Only the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government can be trusted to deliver this important project to make sure our children have the best possible start to life.”
Minister for Education Rob Stokes said the project is another example of the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government delivering the school resources local students and their families deserve.
“Providing high-quality school buildings is an important way to provide our students with the best educational opportunities,” Mr Stokes said.
The major upgrade to Murrumbidgee Regional High School is being carried out as part of the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government’s record $6 billion school building program to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools.
Mr Stokes said the NSW Liberals & Nationals record investment in schools was in stark contrast to Labor’s.
“The last time Labor was in power, they shut down 90 schools, including Burraboi, Merriwagga and Hatfield public schools, resulting in a loss of more than 500 classrooms and 2,000 student places.”
In addition to the record-breaking school building program, the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has committed an unprecedented investment to eliminate the school maintenance backlog so that every public school in the State provides the world-class facilities that our students and teachers deserve.
