Safety for pedestrians and road users at Leeton will be improved this month, with new and extended 40 km/h school zones at Parkview Public School and St Joseph’s Primary School.
Member for Murray Austin Evans said the changes which will come into effect from Tuesday 29 January.

“Student safety is paramount, which is why the new and extended school zones are being installed so pedestrians can get to and from school safely,” Mr Evans said.
“A new school zone has been installed on Cherry Avenue near Parkview Public School, approximately 260 metres from west of Park Avenue to west of Melaleuca Avenue at Leeton.
“The existing school zone on Park Avenue has been lengthened to meet the intersection on Cherry Avenue. A short side entry school zone has been installed on Jacaranda Avenue.
“At St Joseph’s Primary School, the existing school zone on Coolibah Street has been lengthened to approximately 310 metres and now ends just east of Boree Street.
“New school zones have also been installed on Boree Street from north of Ebony Lane to just north of Commission Lane and a short side entry on Ebony Lane.
“Motorists are reminded the 40 km/h school zone speed limit is legally enforceable. The 40 km/h school zone will operate between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm on gazetted school days.”
40 km/h school zones help ensure pedestrians are able to move around safely in the local area and alert motorists to slow down, as well as create a more consistent road network for the Leeton community.
Motorists are reminded to drive to the speed limits at all times for the safety of all road users.
