The 2018 NSW Seniors Festival kicks off on 4 April. This year is extra special as the Festival celebrates its Diamond Jubilee Anniversary after running for 60 years in NSW.

Member for Murray Austin Evans said this year’s Festival is celebrating the theme Let’s Do More Together.

Mr Evans said the Festival is the largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 500,000 people expected to take part in hundreds of free or discounted events on offer across NSW.

“There is always room in life for new experiences, so I encourage seniors to experience all that Murray has to offer during the Festival,” Mr Evans said.

The NSW Government’s vision under the NSW Ageing Strategy 2016-2020 is for everyone to experience the benefits of living longer and enjoy opportunities to participate in, contribute to and be included in our communities.

The Festival is a key initiative under the Strategy that aims to promote inclusive communities. Research shows that older people who maintain social connections report better quality of life and independence.

“The Festival is also an opportunity to thank older residents for their contributions to their families, friends and workplaces. I am sure you will agree Murray seniors enrich our community as treasured grandparents, volunteers, business owners and workers,” he said.
