Leeton swimming pool will soon provide more fun and fitness with the NSW Government announcing a $3 million funding reservation to upgrade the pool.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro and Member for Murray Austin Evans said the pool would be widened from eight to 10 lanes, increasing capacity for swimmers in training, and a new water slide and water play items would be installed.

Mr Evans said these improvements will no doubt be widely appreciated by the many Leeton locals and people from right across the region who use the pool and slide.

Mr Barilaro said improving local sporting facilities makes a big difference to regional NSW communities, encouraging participation and attracting new residents.

“Our investment in regional NSW has helped communities with hundreds of projects just like these – making them great places to live, work and play,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Sport and socialising are the cornerstone of regional communities, bringing people together for some fun and friendly competition, which is why I am backing projects like this right across regional NSW.”

Since 2011 the NSW Government has committed more than $324 million to sports facilities across regional NSW.

Leeton Mayor Paul Maytom said that the Leeton community has long been recognised as having a regional swimming complex that is centrally located and ideal for school swimming carnivals and other special competitions.

“This funding announcement will only further enhance that reputation and scope for future events for many years to come,” Cr Maytom said.

“On behalf of the Leeton community, I would like to express my excitement and delight at this wonderful funding announcement to upgrade our Leeton Swimming Pool.

“This project has long been a very high priority on Council’s wish list and I know the local community will be extremely grateful for this project being given the green light to proceed thanks to further significant investment by the NSW State Government in regional communities such as Leeton.

“The upgrade works to be undertaken will take us well into the future and other works associated will complement the already fantastic sporting precinct that we have in that area.

“It truly is the icing on the cake for Council for all of the strong advocating and ground work that we did to ensure this great outcome for our community,” he said

Funding for the upgrade has been reserved under the NSW Government’s Regional Communities Development Fund.
