Member for Murray Austin Evans has announced this year’s Sikh games have received a welcome boost with a $20,000 funding grant from the NSW Government.
Mr Evans said this was excellent news as it will assist with the cost of managing and hosting the event.
“The event has gone from strength to strength each year, with more and more people wanting to be part of this colourful and exciting event which includes and promotes the most popular Sikh sports.
“Up to 15,000 people are expected for this year’s event, which brings significant economic benefits to the whole area,” Mr Evans said.
“Accommodation houses in Griffith and right throughout the region are generally booked out well in advance to the event.
Mr Evans said this grant is another way in which the Nationals and Liberals in Government are supporting events and tourism in our community.
The 23rd Shaheedi Tournament, or Sikh Games, will be held on 8-9 June 2019 at Ted Scobie Oval, Griffith.
